Nanshan is active in innovation and entrepreneurship. The district’s R&D investment accounted for 6.3% of its GDP. The district boasts 123,000 valid invention patents in China, accounting for over 40% of the city’s total, and international patent applications under the PCT accounting for about 1/8 of the country’s total. The construction of X-Lake Sciensity has been solidly promoted, and significant progress has been made in the construction of Pengcheng Laboratory. Nanshanhas gatherednine universities, nine laboratories in cooperation with Nobel Prize winning scientists, and over 300 national, provincial, and municipal innovation platforms.
