Shenzhen company CITIC Offshore Helicopter Company (COHC) has made history with the successful completion of a test flight on the cross-border helicopter route from Shenzhen Nantou Heliport in Nanshan District to Hong Kong International Airport. This maiden voyage signifies a breakthrough in cross-border travel, offering a swift and innovative mode of transportation between the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong.

Traditionally, the journey from Shenzhen to Hong Kong International Airport has been time-consuming, with ground transportation, including customs procedures, taking over 2 hours, and sea transport requiring at least 1 hour. The test flight by COHC has revolutionized this travel time, accomplishing the trip in a mere 15 minutes, a significant leap in efficiency.

The test flight was operated by COHC, a general aviation company headquartered in Shenzhen, utilizing the EC175B helicopter manufactured by Airbus Helicopters in France. This state-of-the-art aircraft is designed to accommodate 10 passengers along with two crew members, providing a comfortable and efficient travel experience.

Beyond the increase in travel efficiency, the helicopter route offers passengers a unique vantage point. En route, they can enjoy panoramic views of iconic landmarks such as the Shenzhen Bay Bridge, Shenzhen Talent Park, Shekou Cruise Homeport, and Hong Kong Island from the air.

The inauguration of this official air route is anticipated to greatly enhance transportation links between Shenzhen and Hong Kong. It is expected to offer a more convenient travel option for business professionals and tourists, fostering closer ties and facilitating greater cooperation in business and tourism between Shenzhen and Hong Kong.
