The XPeng AeroHT flying car, X2, successfully completed its maiden flight over Shenzhen Talent Park in Nanshan Districton the morning of May 25, when the 4th China Intelligent Vehicle Conference was held in Shenzhen.
The vehicle took off vertically from the square of Shenzhen Talent Park, circled the park, and completed a low-altitude flight at a height of 30 meters. It used the autonomous piloting mode throughout the process.
Sitting inside the flying car, one can enjoy a birds-eye-view of Shenzhen Talent Park’s scenery and see landmark buildings such as the China Resources Tower, the Shenzhen Bay Sports Center, and the Shenzhen Bay Bridge.
Developed and manufactured by XPeng AeroHT, the X2, a two-seater intelligent electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) flying car, has undergone nearly 6,000 test flights in diverse environments, including urban CBDs, and oversea areas, deserts, and rivers.
At the end of 2023, the Shenzhen Municipal Transport Bureau and six other departments jointly issued measures to support the high-quality development of the low-altitude economy in Shenzhen.
In the same year, the low-altitude economy first appeared in the city government’s work report. The report proposed the establishment of a low-altitude economic center and the creation of a civilian unmanned aviation test zone.
The maiden flight of XPeng’s flying car in Nanshan is expected to help promote low-altitude commuting, sightseeing, and other application scenarios in Shenzhen’s CBDs in the future.
