Twin sisters Wang Liuyi and Wang Qianyi from Nanshan District secured back-to-back victories at the World Aquatics Championships in Doha, winning three gold medals over three days, Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported.
The latest triumph came as China emerged victorious in the artistic swimming team technical final Tuesday, securing the gold medal with a commanding score of 299.8712, leading the second-place Spanish team by nearly 24 points.
Juggling both duet and team events, the twin sisters also helped China clinch two gold medals in the artistic swimming team acrobatic event Sunday and the duet technical event Monday.

Maintaining peak performance for three consecutive days, the twins, along with their teammates, delivered an impressive display Tuesday. The eight-member Chinese team moved gracefully in synchronization through the water, striving for perfection in every kick, stroke, and theatrical pose to the accompaniment of music.
The Chinese team experienced disappointment at the 2023 Fukuoka World Aquatics Championships in the same event, where despite securing first place in the preliminary round, they made two critical mistakes in the final, ultimately finishing seventh.
Following their victory in the artistic swimming team acrobatic event Sunday, Chinese coach Zhang Xiaohuan praised the twins’ performance in particular, according to Xinhua.
“After only three months of cohesion following the Hangzhou Asian Games, they had to juggle additional collective training on top of their duet free performances. It was not easy,” Zhang was quoted as saying.
The twin sisters were scheduled to compete in the duet free event and team free routine in Doha.
The twin sisters from Nanshan began to practice artistic swimming at the age of 8, and later decided to become artistic swimmers. Subsequently, they were selected into the Shenzhen and Guangdong teams, becoming the main players in team and duet events. Now, the two girls are important members of the national team.
