20 projects selected to advance people’s well-being

A total of 20 projects concerning people's well-being for 2024 have been voted by lawmakers at the Fourth Session of the Eight Nanshan District People's Congress, which concluded on Jan. 28.

These projectsrange from expediting higher quality and more balanced basic education to bolstering public healthcare capabilities in communities.

One of the projects will see Nanshan District build and expand several primary and secondary schools and kindergartens, while increasing 900 compulsory education admissions and 540 preschool admissions.

Nanshan will complete 350 drainage network renovations in old residential compounds, aiming to be a frontrunner in completing drainagenetwork renovation projects in Shenzhen.

The district will also build or renovate 10 kilometers of non-motorized vehicle lanes, optimize over 15 bus routes, and increasetwo new special shuttle bus routes for Metro lines.

Home-based facility renovations will be made in more than 500 households for eligible senior citizens, and caregiver services will be provided for over 800 eligible seniors. Smart care services will also be offered to at least 150 elderly people who live alone or are widowed.

A total of 25,000 cervical and breast cancer screenings and 3,000 colorectal cancer screenings will be available for local women and high-risk population, respectively. In addition, 2,000 stroke screenings and interventions will be provided for medium- and high-risk population.

The district will provide training for elderly care workers. Each subdistrict will hold at least one training session for family caregivers, aiming to benefit over 2,000 families.

At least 220 outdated elevators will be upgraded and refurbished.

About 7,300 disabled people, disabled military personnel, anddisabled policemen with household registration in Nanshan District will be given bonuses in major holidays.

Upgrades of 26 community health centers will be completed.

Subsidies will be given out to at least 50 disabled people who are enrolled in primary schools, secondary schools, or special education institutions, or who are admitted to universities through the national college entrance examination or adult higher education examination.

Nanshan will forge ahead with campus revitalization projectsfor 35 schools, fostering safe, vibrant, and efficient learning spaces.

The district will build or plan 15,000 units of government-subsidized housing, and rental subsidies will be offered to eligible residents.

The projects also include the installation of 19 traffic lights, 26 check points, 22 speed cameras, 37 surveillance cameras, the renovation of 54 existing traffic intersections, and the improvement of five traffic monitoring facilities in tunnels.

Medical insurance service stations will be built at more than 1,000 designated medical institutions in the district, benefiting over 2.4 million insured individuals with some 30 service items about medical insurance and relevant policies.

Twenty kilometers of hiking trails and countryside paths will be built and renovated.

A hundred public toilets below par will be upgraded.

Eight automated drone airports and one command center will be established across the district to conduct regular emergency management patrols and provide emergency response.
